We perform thread reconstruction on samples of various colors and materials, including silk, rayon, cotton, polyester, and metallic fibers. For each type, we capture 17 reflection and transmission views and conduct thread reconstruction. We compare our results with those obtained using a single-fiber scattering model—which treats each thread as a single fiber—as well as with results generated using the model from the paper A Practical and Hierarchical Yarn-based Shading Model for Cloth by Zhu et al. Our method produces significantly more accurate reconstructions because it is simulation-driven and able to capture multiple scattering behaviors within a single thread.
